A Cool Christmas Activity – Ice Cube Hunt!

A friend of mine told me about a city celebration where they hide ice cubes for the children to find.  What a wonderful idea for Christmas!  Of course I had to give it a try.  I was in charge of our family Christmas party this year and so I bought a couple of extra ice cube trays and filled them up with water….

Next I placed everything from dimes to quarters to dollar bills inside. I stuck them in the freezer the day before our Christmas party.  The grand prize was a $10 bill which definitely got the older kids attention!

All we had to do was throw them outside on the lawn and set the kids loose.  It was cold outside but nobody seemed to notice.

After the ice cubes were collected we headed inside where a big bowl of warm water was waiting to thaw the ice cubes and retrieve the prizes.  We made a rule that everyone had to find at least one of the “bills.”

Just a thought: Instead of money, small prizes could be placed in the ice cubes.

I think it would have been fun to color the ice cubes.  Each child could have found a particular color.  But we’ll try that next year!

HAPPY HUNTING!
